Yesterday my PhD examiners' reports arrived in the mail with a nice letter from the university explaining that it will be another 3-4 weeks before I get my final recommendation from the chair of examiners. In Griffith Uni language those weeks may turn to months, but at least I know that I unofficially got a 1 (no revisions to be made) and a 2.1 ( ( Read more... )

Happy Birthday hana_broom!

So, my PhD goes to the printery tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully this will end my anxiety about ... I'm not really sure what. I've effectively put my foot down and said "Enough!" and now I feel like I'm embracing my future rather than fearing the fear of it.

SH and I have been spending a lot of time at home lately. The domesticity has been very, very enjoyable -- although it has driven me into behaving like a love-sick puppy at times. I am so proud of her for landing a scholarship for her Honours year, something yours truly was incapable of.

I've just finished writing the draft of my Introduction and I've sent it off to my supervisors. Next week I'll start in on the Conclusion. It's good that I'm getting through things at this rate as I'm sure I'd be getting much less sleep if I wasn't making so much headway. There is one niggling irritation about the Introduction though... So those bemusing comments Doc gave me for my sixth chapter turn out to be the 'nascent possibilities' that my chapter developed because it was too competent. WTF?!

It turns out that Lacan.com have been nice enough to publish the entirety of Zizek's How To Read Lacan. It's worth looking at if you haven't already bought a copy.

Now to make heads or tails of these vague comments from supervisor numero uno...

Beyond Lenin... Ugh, yes! And Lacan wins in the end. Why? Transcendental schematism, Lacan at his late Kantian best and Lenin contained within the horizon of revolution.
